This week I will begin a French class at Alliance Française. On Friday, I registered and took the placement test. Their assessment has six levels, ranging from a basic user to independent user to advanced user, each category having a lower and an upper level. I placed in the lower, independent user level (the third one).
I was pleased with that since I haven't had any formal French classes since I left Grad School in 1982, and a short, conversation class for a month in 1993!
I'll be going to the class twice a week for two hours each. I have a book and workbook, but, of course, my main interest is in conversation. I can manage fairly well for many situations, yet I still struggle when trying to speak spontaneously. I can speak perfect French in my head, but a funny thing happens when I open my mouth -- the words don't come or they don't sound the right way. Go figure!
I'll let you know how it all progresses.

Hey Nancy! So glad to hear your updates--sounds like a great adventure. We sure miss you at the DOW, but Mary is a good fit, which helps. I MAY see you in August, but tix are super expensive. If I do plan a trip, I'll check in to see what you'd like from the US of A. Peace! Jenn C
