Success X Two

I've done it -- finished the course! The last couple of days flew by, as usually happens in this type of endeavor. Last night, after our final teaching classes, we had a farewell dinner. The wine flowed, pictures were taken and phone numbers and emails exchanged. Of the seven of us in the course, five are remaining in Paris while two are returning to England. We have already agreed to meet and continue the friendships begun here. As I mentioned the other day, I will be sharing the sublet with Julie, who is Canadian.
Tomorrow I will move into Paris and the next step is to begin the process of job hunting. During the job guidance section of the course, we learned that most students who complete this course have a job in a language school within two weeks. Of couse, working for a language school is not "full time" in the sense of a 40 hour week. You are paid only for contact hours, which is usually about 20 - 25 hours a week. Travel time between clients and lesson preparation time is generally not paid time. We also learned that it is not uncommon to work for more than one school and to have private lessons as well.
So - I said success times two. What is the second part? It has been a year since I quit smoking! Yes, it is true that I have quit, restart and quit again over the last 10 years, but this is still a milestone and I am feeling good about it.
Signing off for now ...the next post will be as a resident of Paris!

One thing you can do is join TESOL France - we organise lots of workshops for teachers and run a Yahoo email list which people use to discuss or send out job ads:
http://www.tesol-france.org.
Let me know if you want to add your email to the Yahoo list.
