Last Friday, December 14, was my last full day in the office. After more than 10 years of working as a Volunteer Coordinator for the Colorado Division of Wildlife, I walked out of the office and out of the job. It was very emotional for me, having to say goodbye to co-workers and volunteers that I have known for so long. It was even hard to say goodbye to the newest employee, Mary, who is replacing me. I left in tears and sat in my car sobbing, until I pulled myself together and headed for the airport. I was on my way to go visit my sister, Beth, who lives in Des Moines.
A week before I left, we had a gathering to say goodbye and many of the volunteers and employees came by to say, "Bon Voyage." I have had an extraordinary amount of support for this venture. The party was upbeat so I didn't get teary; it was really a good feeling to have so many people there that have been such a large part of my life.
Back from a short but good visit to Des Moines, I am repacking to go to Palm Springs, CA. From the frigid, winter storm laden midwest to sunny California - yeah - I prefer the warm! I am going to visit my friend, Anett, on the occasion of her 50th birthday. (Oops - maybe I shouldn't mention which birthday?) We were roommates in college, too many years ago to count. We have a lot of years to catch up on with each other.
I'll be back home in Colorado for Christmas, with my son, Ryan, my sister, Karen, and extended family. Then, one week of tying up all the loose ends, saying all the last goodbyes, before I leave for Paris on the 2nd. One and a half years ago, when I received my British passport (dual citizenship - I was born there) and it became clear that this dream of mine COULD become a reality, it seemed to stretch so far in front of me. Now there are only 16 days until I board the plane to Paris. Yup - it really is happening! My only concern is - how in the world can I take all that I want to take with me in two suitcases?!?

Nancy, leave all your stuff in Denver! I'll fit in two suitcases! I enjoyed our visit so much. It was way too short though. I love you and hope this experience is the best of your life. I'll miss you terribly, but will get there to see you. Have fun in California!
I can't believe that you are going to do it too - but we are all so proud of you. Don't know if I'll ever get to see France.... but am sure happy that you'll be there to share with us.
we love you,
JC n' the kids...
